    About the family

Hewngate is a roman serif that remembers the chisel. The serifs are small and wedge shaped, the strokes flare gently into them, and the capitals keep the calm, generous proportions of letters cut into stone. The lowercase is warm and readable, with a lively g and a crisp little ear on the r, and the figures are well mannered. Six weights run from a fine Light to a heavy Black, and every one keeps the same quiet dignity. It reads well in a paragraph, looks noble in a heading, and is perfectly happy on a gravestone, a gateway or a bottle of good olive oil.
