How it looks in use
Anvilgate
A chunky slab monospace. Every letter the same width, square serifs as thick as the stems.
Anvilgate
About the family
Anvilgate is built like shelving. Every letter gets exactly the same box, the serifs are square blocks as thick as the stems, and the round letters are softened rectangles rather than circles. Because the slot is wide, the rhythm is very open: short words look spaced out and deliberate, like stencilled crate numbers. The three weights are close in tone and all of them are sturdy. It reads well for labels, codes and short data lines. Long paragraphs feel slow because every i and l takes as much room as an m.
