How it looks in use
Hewnslim
An even-stroked narrow serif, carved rather than written, ending every stem in a small sharp flare.
Hewnslim
About the family
Hewnslim keeps its strokes almost the same weight all the way round, then gives each stem a small triangular flare at the end, the way a stonecutter finishes a line. The bowls are narrow and nearly straight-sided, the stems stand tall like trunks, and the joins are cut clean. The effect is quieter than a classic inscription face and a good deal more upright than a pen letter. The figures are slim and tall, so dates and prices sit neatly in a line. There are four weights, Light to SemiBold; Light is airy enough for a long heading, SemiBold holds its ground on a sign. It is the letter you would want on a gatepost.
